I am an African American female with straight hair. What can i do to get textured curly hair. Is it

Ive seen many african americans with textured curly hair. It looks very natural. For example: Joan on the show girlfriends, she has textured curls. What can I do to get my hair in this style. Are there products in the market to help obtain this hairstyle. Or is it a natural style. Please only answer with good helpful opinions. Im looking for a new hairstyle.

well you could get a perm if your hair's naturally straight (ie not relaxed) or use curling tongs (or plait your hair then straighten the plaits with ceramic straighteners). or you could try spraying curling spray onto your hair after you've washed it, then scrunching it as you dry it with a hairdrier (use a diffuser nozzle).

my hair's relaxed but if i want that look then i tend to plait my hair when it's wet then let it dry naturally, or if you only want the ends curly then towel dry your hair %26amp; put your hair into a ponytail, then tuck the end of the ponytail under the hairband and when your hair's dry %26amp; you let it down the ends will be curly.

a lot of people, especially celebrities/models in magazines are wearing weaves or extensions though so it's almost definitely either not their hair or their hair after several hours in hair%26amp;makeup!

You can use curlers or a curling iron....and use conditioner!!!

If your hair is relaxed, the best answer really anyone can give you is either put on the curling wand or get some rollers out.

The only ways you can obtain "textured curls" are if your hair is naturally curly like that, if you have a tight curl pattern and use a texturizer to obtain it or if you curl your hair tightly with a curling wand.

my dear, those are not naturals...they are treated hair! africa origin hair is normally straight. however, you can apply some chemical on a regular basis.

thing is i think Tracy Ellis Ross aka Joan is half white as to why her hair is like that but the closest i know that we can get our hair like that is straw set curls which can be done with straws or small perm rods but i must let you kno your hair won't come out looking exactly like Joan's depending on how long your hair is if it is short (bottom of your ear lobes) to medium (neck length) it can go from a cute curly Afro or if you have hair that passes the nape of your neck it can be longer curls

If have a relaxer you may try a straw or flexirod set. or you can wash your hair then apply moisturizer and seal it with oil, braid your head once dry you should have a nice look. Or cornrow it straight back. If you are natural try the two strands twist, bantu and once they dry you would unravel them. If you have nothing in your hair, yes you can get a textured curl.

Try a few of the things I suggested first, and you can buy s-curl, olive oil, tea tree oil, a good conditioner to leave in, wash your hair and apply the products to see if you can get a curly look. You have to work it through your hair (your hair loves moisture). Check out this site my favorite is blackhairmedia.com or longhaircare.com.

You can either use hot rollers or some kind of rollers.

Get a perm.

Or curl it yourself with a curling iron.

You can check out rollers at a Sallys beauty supply or whatever store in your area or you shop at.

You can get a perm at a salon for about $60 or more. They'll know what you need and what to do. Or again, you can go to a Sallys beauty supply store and look at their perms for sale and get the one that fits your hair type and if you dont know ask someone there.

Curling it yourself will probably be difficult but its an opition. Joan has smal tight curls so if you want that you need a small curling iron. For bigger, looser curls you need to get/have a bigger iron.

I think it's called double strand twist....my friend does it to her hair all the time...first you need some type of setting lotion or mousse or gel....the technique is very similar to corn rowing....instead of braiding the hair just double strand twist it! U must dry it either using a blow dryer or hooded dryer or you can just let it hair dry....I highly recommend a hooded dryer! When surface of hair is hard just untwist hair...you'll probably need to apply a gloss to your hair after you take the twist out

I'm not sure about African hair

but i used to use curling irons and i will never use them again - they totally damaged my hair but if you do use them, make sure you get a strong heat protector and deep condition your hair afterwards (after your done with the style)

Or you use heated rollers but i recommend you use heat protection for that too. You need to put some hairspray on after you insert the rollers to help hold the shape. Also, afterwards, wait for the curls to cool before you run your fingers through them or they will drop very quickly.

You may find that your hair will frizz up very easily so you should invest in a good quality serum (John Frieda's Extra Strong Hold Serum - in a blue bottle).

I'm not too sure what you could do about texture but if you curl your hair clockwise and anti-clockwise and use different sizes, the result should be quite natural looking.

DO NOT BRUSH YOUR HAiR USING A BRUSH AFTERWARDS - unless you want it to go super frizzy!!! Use your fingers to gently separate them, they will look better!
